WoW Vanilla Server Updated – Nearly Two Years of CMaNGOS Updates

WoW Vanilla CMaNGOS Classic server update with nearly two years of bug fixes, database updates and gameplay improvements
Splashgame WoW Vanilla is fully updated with the latest CMaNGOS Classic core and Classic-DB, including nearly two years of fixes and improvements.

Our WoW Vanilla server has received a major update.

While the server itself may look much the same when you log in, quite a lot has changed underneath. We’ve brought the server up to the current version of CMaNGOS Classic, including almost two years of accumulated core changes, database updates, bug fixes and improvements.

What was updated?

The server is now running the current CMaNGOS Classic core:

CMaNGOS 0.18 – August 2026

The world database has also been carefully migrated through all required updates:

  • CMaNGOS database schema updated from the older z2815 generation through z2837
  • Classic-DB updated through content revision 4838
  • More than 200 individual Classic-DB update files applied
  • Current ACID 1.12.x Classic creature AI
  • Existing characters, accounts and world data preserved

This wasn’t done by simply replacing the old database with a fresh one. The existing Splashgame world was migrated step-by-step through the official updates.

That matters because it lets us keep our existing server while still benefiting from everything that has changed upstream.

Lots of fixes under the hood

CMaNGOS and Classic-DB are actively maintained community projects, and a lot of small improvements accumulate over time.

The updates include work affecting areas such as quests, NPC behaviour, creature AI, spells, reputation, game objects, spawn handling, scripted events, movement, pets, dungeons and raids.

There have also been numerous improvements to the server core itself, including stability fixes and better handling of various game systems.

Not every change is something you’ll immediately notice while wandering around Elwynn Forest or getting murdered in Stranglethorn Vale. Many fix specific quests, unusual situations or behaviours that previously didn’t quite match the original game.

Put together, however, they make for a considerably more mature Vanilla server.

The old world survived

One of the main goals of the update was not to start over.

Instead of importing a completely new Classic-DB and throwing away the existing world, we migrated the current database through the official CMaNGOS update path.

Characters and accounts remain intact, and we’ve retained the existing server setup while bringing the underlying software forward.

After the migration, the server reports:

CMaNGOS/0.18
Classic-DB 1.12.1 "Melting Pot v2"
ACID 1.12.x Classic

And internally the database is now at:

CMaNGOS World DB: z2837
Classic-DB content: 4838

The slightly confusing z2815 text still shown in the Classic-DB startup description is simply the database release’s old descriptive version string. The actual database revision is z2837.

Vanilla, not “Vanilla+”

The goal remains the same as before.

This is World of Warcraft 1.12.x, powered by CMaNGOS Classic and Classic-DB. We’re not trying to turn it into a modern WoW server disguised as Vanilla.

The updates are primarily about making the original Vanilla experience work better and more correctly: fixing bugs, improving scripts and AI, correcting world data and keeping the emulator itself healthy.

And after working our way through hundreds of database updates and nearly two years of development…

Splashgame Vanilla is fully updated and back in business.

Welcome back to Azeroth. ⚔️
